DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 10\, 2024\n6:00 PM  8:00 PM\nBogart’s Coffee House (map)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf Nick Justice’s career has found him lurking below the radar\, it’s only because he’s the one that initially put the brakes on. Weaned on the Southern California sound — as represented by the Eagles\, Crosby\, Stills and Nash and Jackson Browne — he was lured to the Golden State in the late ‘80s and became a journeyman troubador of sorts — busking\, paying his dues  in various itinerate ensembles and playing for whoever would listen. Eventually he worked his way up to the status  of an opening act\, serving a support role to number of important outfits — X\, the Blasters\, the Radiators\, INXS\, the Del Fuegos and other ‘80s and ‘90s scene-setters. Justice has a knack for sharing a kind of breezy balladry and while his is a generally unassuming sound\, the music is still seeped in sentiment and an easy\, affable embrace. Nick Justice is a great story teller in the true fashion of the traveling Troubador. With 5 previous critically acclaimed solo records and one collaboration with The SideMen\, Justice is currently finishing up his 6th solo record titled “Stranger inMy Town” produced by folk legend Joel Rafael and a supporting cast of Greg Leisz on pedal steel and dobro (Jackson Browne Band)\, Mai Leisz on bass (David Crosby Band)\, and Richard Stekol on guitar (Honk\, Funky Kings).

Furthermore\, the City of Los Alamitos is not responsible for any damage\, loss\, or theft that may occur to Artist’s work while it is being displayed in the Community Center gallery.\nArtists must self-insure for damage\, loss\, or theft to their work.\nArtwork description cards will be placed next to the artwork. Cards will be created and provided by the City.\n\nAwards: \n\nA closing ceremony will be held on Sunday\, March 17 at 6:30 pm. Winners will receive a ribbon\, certificate\, and gift card to the Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster in Westminster.\n\n1st place – $100 gift card\n2nd place – $50 gift card\n3rd place – $25 gift card\n\n\nWinners will be contacted starting Saturday\, March 16 after the conclusion of judging. SUMMARY:Long Beach Earthquake strikes
DESCRIPTION:Today is the 91st anniversary of the Long Beach Earthquake which\, not surprisingly also did a lot of damage to neighboring Seal Beach\, knocking a number of houses off their foundations\, and sending many people fleeing a potential tsunami to the crests of The Hill and some fled even further inland.   The quake broke water lines and tap water was unavailable for a few days  The Navy sent over troops provide food and water at campsites across the street from City Hall\, and Mayor Elmer Hughes hauled in water from the Bixby ranches to the north of town.  One of the worst hit structures was the poorly constructed brick Tourist Hotel” at 125 Main Street which totally collapsed\, but fortunately\, it appears many of the hotel residents — ladies who engaged in more horizontal business pursuits — had been arrested the night before and were not on the premises. \nNoted town historian Michael Dobkins covered the earthquake in great detail and has many photos in his This Date in Seal Beach History blog.  Some of his writings can be read at the links below \n\nThe streets will Crack\, the pipes will pop\nOutdoor Dining Amidst the Rubble\nNow they’re just more bricks in the wall\nHow the earthquake impacted Bolsa Chica .

SUMMARY:Los Alamitos celebrates its 64th birthday
DESCRIPTION:On this day in 1960\, residents of the community of Los Alamitos went to the polls to vote on whether or not to become a city.  Afraid that they might be gobbled up by fast-growing Garden Grove\, the residents came out and by a vote of 379 for and 251 opposed\, Los Alamitos became Orange County’s 22nd city.  The residents also voted in their first city council.  Chamber of Commerce President Jim Bell\, the man who had first led the campaign to reinvigorate the sleepy little town 13 years before\, received 401 votes\, followed by Chuck Long (398)\, Bill Brown (369)\, Frank Allen (359)\, and A.C. Brown (344).
