Los Alamitos celebrates its 64th birthday

February 17 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

On this day in 1960, residents of the community of Los Alamitos went to the polls to vote on whether or not to become a city.  Afraid that they might be gobbled up by fast-growing Garden Grove, the residents came out and by a vote of 379 for and 251 opposed, Los Alamitos became Orange County’s 22nd city.  The residents also voted in their first city council.  Chamber of Commerce President Jim Bell, the man who had first led the campaign to reinvigorate the sleepy little town 13 years before, received 401 votes, followed by Chuck Long (398), Bill Brown (369), Frank Allen (359), and A.C. Brown (344).
